Combining a local search and Grover’s algorithm in black-box global optimisation

چکیده
Grover’s quantum algorithm promises a quadratic acceleration for any problem formulable as a search. For unstructured search problems, its implementation and performance are well understood. The curse of dimensionality and the intractibility of the general global optimisation problem require any identifiable structure or regularity to be incorporated into a solution method. This paper addresses the application of Grover’s algorithm when a local search technique is available, thereby combining the quadratic acceleration with the acceleration seen in the multistart method. Quantum basin hopping with gradient-based local optimisation
The quantum basin hopping algorithm for continuous global optimisation combines a local search with Grover’s algorithm, and can locate the global optimum using effort proportional to the square root of the number of basins. This article establishes that Jordan’s quantum gradient estimation method can be incorporated into the quantum basin hopper, providing an extra acceleration proportional to ...
متن کاملA New Framework for Combining Global and Local Methods in Black Box Optimization
We propose a new framework for the optimization of computationally expensive black box problems, where neither closed-form expressions nor derivatives of the objective functions are available. The proposed framework consists of two procedures. The first constructs a global metamodel to approximate the underlying black box function and explores an unvisited area to search for a global solution; ...
متن کاملA Meta-heuristic Algorithm for Global Numerical Optimization Problems inspired by Vortex in fluid physics
One of the most important issues in engineering is to find the optimal global points of the functions used. It is not easy to find such a point in some functions due to the reasons such as large number of dimensions or inability to derive them from the function. Also in engineering modeling, we do not have the relationships of many functions, but we can input and output them as a black box. The...
متن کاملConstrained Nonlinear Optimal Control via a Hybrid BA-SD
The non-convex behavior presented by nonlinear systems limits the application of classical optimization techniques to solve optimal control problems for these kinds of systems. This paper proposes a hybrid algorithm, namely BA-SD, by combining Bee algorithm (BA) with steepest descent (SD) method for numerically solving nonlinear optimal control (NOC) problems. The proposed algorithm includes th...
متن کاملAn Intuitive Hamiltonian for Quantum Search
We present new intuition behind Grover’s quantum search algorithm by means of a Hamiltonian. Given a black-box Boolean function f : {0, 1}n → {0, 1} such that f(w) = 1 for exactly one w ∈ {0, 1}n, Grover [4] describes a quantum algorithm that finds w in O(2) time. Farhi & Gutmann [3] show that w can also be found in the same amount time by letting the quantum system evolve according to a simple...
